Short-Post-Friday - The Sabbath

 Here's a concept to consider.

The Sabbath is Holy time according to the 10 commandments. Also, in the Creation account God hallows the Sabbath.

Judaism 'kept' the Sabbath in a very strict but incorrect way. We know that because of the conflicts that arose between the Jews and Jesus.

While Jesus did frequent the synogogues and the Temple on the Sabbath, there is more record of him walking, hiking, boating, amd most importantly talking to strangers.

He spoke a parable once that made the case that those who have been enlightened by the knowledge of the truth were 'lights to the world'. He went on to say that no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel basket, because the light is only of value of it iluminates other people's vision.

Have you ever thought about how ironic and sad it is, that Christians, on the day(s) they believe to Holy Time... Sanctified, which means - Set apart for Holy use - that we all separate from 'the world' and huddle together under the roof of a church?

Like a bunch of candles inside a roof and four walls.

Jesus once responded to a trick-question about His aparent breaking of the Sabbath with the statement 'the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath'... what man was it made for? Wasn't it ALL men?

He also added, 'is it not lawful to do good on the Sabbath?'.

Jesus talked to strangers on the Sabbath because that's what it's for.

I would challenge you to consider if your church is not the prohibition of the 1st commandment. Is attendance of your church more important than being Holy?

Comments

  1. Makes me think about Jesus comment about The light that's in you, "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"

Partly because you are talking about a light, but also because I think your conclusion comes from the fact that your light is "good" and sees the discord that comes from simply isolating on the Sabbath, a day that seems to be set aside to go out and *witness* to the world.

Did you go out and do good on the Sabbath?
