How far into man's 6000 years are we?
It has long been said that you cannot accurately calculate how long man has existed from the Bible alone. However, The Bible shows otherwise. I will post the proof of these numbers in another post, but here is a good printout to use a reference when trying to determine when a biblical story happened.
This took a decent amount of study. There are some tricky elements that take a while to understand.
1. There's an extra person in Luke 3:36 that is not present anywhere else (this is one of very few textual errors in the modern Bible, it is not so much a translation error as it is a compositor's error)
2. The birth order of Haran and Abram. You have to go 2 different chapters to define when Abram was born, Gen 11:26 and Genesis 12:4 and use some math.
3. The date of Solomon's Temple. This one is tricky, because Archaeologists have the wrong date. This is WHY the timeline of Mr.John Ogwyn ended at 2017. He used the Secular date of 966BC (Lesson 2 of the LCG Bible Study Course) In Galations 3:17, Paul gives a measurement that exists nowhere else. That is from the Covenant with Abram, to the Law at Sinai was 430 years. Now you can add that to the 480 years in 1 Kings 6:1 and find your answer.
4. The Kings of Israel. This is to some a very controversial subject, I do not find it controversial at all. Scholars say that you cannot trust the numbers in the book of 1 Kings, because "they overlap". I find that argument absurd in that God would chronicle useless dates. When You add them together the numbers are actually perfect.
When I was doing this chart I had it in my head to determine WHY, the date I read (2031) was different from what Mr.Ogwyn wrote (2017) and what Mr. Armstrong wrote (1975). So I went through The Bible Study Course, 1975 in Prophecy, and my notes at the same time to compare them.
Basically the variation was, Mr. Ogwyn used 966bc for the date of Solomon's temple, which was at the time the best secular number.
As for 1975 in Prophecy, that was a horribly unbased work. It was only an argument of emotion on circumstance, with no genealogical basis at all. For those who haven't read it, basically some leading scientists of the day said that 1975 was when "push button leisure" was going to be normal. That along with the state of world affairs through the lens of Matthew 24 indicated to the author the end.
Here is a Visual graph of how these things overlaid.

This Visual is so cool for a number of reasons, one of my favorites is that Shem and Abraham were alive at the same time.. or that Noah most likely knew Enosh.
